Activity feels like progress. It rarely is. Each additional trade carries brokerage, slippage and — most expensively — attention. Attention spent on marginal setups is attention unavailable when a genuinely good one appears.
The arithmetic of restraint
If your edge appears in a small share of sessions, trading every session dilutes that edge with a large sample of coin flips. Filtering by time cycle windows keeps the sample close to where the edge lives.
- Fewer trades, larger average conviction.
- Clearer post-trade review because each decision is deliberate.
- Lower emotional load and fewer revenge trades.
Building the habit
Write the window down before the session. If the date is not in the plan, the day is for observation and journalling. Discipline is easier when the calendar decides, not the mood.
